THE DARK KNIGHT COMES TO TOWN
Having been dubbed the Summer of the Super Hero Movie, the summer ain’t over yet! The Dark Knight, the sequel to the hugely successful Batman Begins, which reinvented the Batman movie franchise in 2005, opens in theatres on Friday, July 18.
- The new movie has brought back the same creative talent as it’s predecessor and added a few new characters to amp up the mayhem.
- The Dark Knight opens with Batman (Christian Bale), Lieutenant James Gordon (Gary Oldman), and new district attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) beginning to succeed in rounding up the criminals that plague Gotham City. They are unexpectedly challenged when a mysterious criminal mastermind known as The Joker (Heath Ledger) appears in Gotham. Batman’s struggle against the Joker becomes deeply personal, forcing him to “confront everything he believes” and to improve his technology to stop the madman’s campaign of destruction.
- Heath Ledger’s unexpected death on January 22, 2008 has brought an unusual curiousity to the film. Advance word is that the film is better than the previous one and that there is a strong possiblity of Ledger getting a posthumous Oscar nomination for his performance.
- For its release in IMAX theaters, director Christopher Nolan shot four major action sequences in that format, including The Joker’s introduction, and said that he wished that it were possible to shoot the entire film in IMAX: “if you could take an IMAX camera to Mount Everest or outer space, you could use it in a feature movie.”
- The Dark Knight is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and some menace
- As always, bring in your ticket stub to The Dark Knight and receive a 10% DISCOUNT off any single item purchased of Batman and related merchandise. This offer is good only through Sunday, August 17, 2008 and is not good with other offers.
